Prepare SOFIE Installation

Prerequisites

Hardware

Microsoft Windows Vista, 7, 8, 2008 Server R1&R2, 2012 Server:
on 32 and 64 bits processors.

Linux /Unix:
any distribution supporting Java 7 with a graphical user interface should work with a 32 or 64 bits processors.

Authentification Data

Before running the installation procedure for the first time, be sure your have received a user_id and a password from your subscription to SOFIE.

URL/Ports Settings

Following table shows the hosts/ports/content which have to be allowed by a possible firewall which protects your SOFiE client.
All communication are initiated by the SOFiE client (no incoming traffic).

A Web-Proxy with "user authentication" is supported for the http/https connections. The proxy parameters are set in SOFiE during the user profile creation.

Administrative Rights

The user needs a write access to the sofie cache folder (default:"C:\Program Files\Cetrel\cache") and to the data folder (i.e SOFIE_HOME) (default: "C:\cetrel\sofie").

Installation Source

Download the Installation source from www.sofie.lu using your User-id and password .
The SOFiE modules are electronically signed, protecting you from unofficial version.

Standard Installation Procedure

You need to follow this procedure if you are installing SOFiE from scratch.

The following diagram depicts the complete standard SOFiE installation procedure:



To install SOFiE on a Windows environment, follow the Windows installation procedure.
To install SOFiE on a Unix/Linux environment, follow the Unix/Linux installation procedure.

Notice:
SOFiE is not compatible with MacOS.

Update Procedure

The procedure describes how to update your SOFiE application to the last version.
If you have an internet connected installation, the update is automatic and straightforward. For stand-alone installation (unconnected),you have to make the update manually.

Notice:
The update in connected mode only works if you have access to the required URLs. Moreover, be sure you have the necessary administrator rights on your installation folder.

For stand-alone computer, you need to download the last package, uninstall your current version and install the new one.

Installation Migration Procedure

The procedure describes how to migrate your SOFiE installation from a computer to a new one.
If you just need to move your SOFIE_HOME directory (without moving your installation), skip point 2 in the following procedure.
  1. Backup your SOFIE_HOME folder (default path is "C:\cetrel\sofie") on the old computer
  2. Run a fresh SOFIE install package (downloaded from www.sofie.lu) on the new computer.
  3. Copy the backup done in step one on the new computer in the folder of your choice (this folder corresponds to the SOFIE_HOME of your new installation).
  4. On the new computer, change all absolute paths (if installation paths differ between the installations) specified in the GUI and/or batch configuration files

  5. Erase the Java muffins folder (default path is "C:\Program Files\Cetrel\jre\cache\6.0" )
  6. Run the SOFiE application, you will be asked to select the SOFIE_HOME folder on the following screen:



    Please specify your new folder.

Uninstallation

Uninstalling SOFiE doesn't alter the content of your SOFIE_HOME folder.
Therefore your profiles, keys, logs and exchanged files are preserved for the next re-installation.
